Product Care
Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printed T-shirts need specific care to keep the prints vibrant and long-lasting. DTG prints are high-quality and detailed, but proper washing and maintenance are key to preserving the artwork. Here’s a guide on caring for and washing DTG-printed T-shirts.
1. First Wash
- Wait Before Washing: After receiving a DTG-printed T-shirt, wait at least 24-48 hours before washing it to let the ink fully cure.
- Inside Out: Turn the T-shirt inside out before washing to reduce friction on the print.
- Cold Water Only: Use cold water for the first wash, as high temperatures can weaken the print prematurely.
2. Regular Washing Instructions
- Use Cold or Lukewarm Water: Always wash DTG prints in cold or lukewarm water (ideally below 30°C or 86°F) to maintain color vibrancy and fabric quality.
- Mild Detergent: Choose a gentle, mild detergent without bleach or harsh chemicals that could fade the print.
- Avoid Fabric Softeners: Softeners can deteriorate the print, so it’s best to avoid them.
3. Machine Washing Tips
- Turn Inside Out: Keep the T-shirt inside out to reduce print abrasion and fading.
- Use Gentle Cycle: Select a gentle or delicate cycle on the washing machine to prevent stress on the fabric and print.
- Wash with Similar Colors: To prevent color bleeding, wash with other similar colors.
4. Drying the T-Shirt
- Air Dry if Possible: The best option is to air-dry DTG-printed T-shirts by laying them flat or hanging them, as this is gentlest on the print.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Direct sunlight can fade the colors, so dry the shirt in the shade or indoors.
- Low Heat if Using Dryer: If air drying isn’t possible, use a dryer on the low or no-heat setting to protect the print. Excess heat can crack and deteriorate the ink over time.
5. Ironing Tips
- Avoid Direct Ironing on Print: Never iron directly on the DTG print. The heat can damage the ink.
- Iron Inside Out or Use a Cloth: If ironing is needed, turn the T-shirt inside out or place a cloth over the printed area, and use a low-heat setting.
6. Storing the T-Shirt
- Keep in a Cool, Dry Place: Store the T-shirt in a cool, dry area to prevent moisture buildup, which can harm both the fabric and the print.
- Avoid Folding on the Print: Try not to fold directly on the printed area, as this could cause creases in the design over time. Hanging is preferable.
